Keanu Reeves is a man of focus, commitment, and kind heart, something you know very little about. I once read an article in Daily Mail about him waiting 20 minutes in the rain outside his OWN party rather than make a scene.
So, I’ve decided to post 15 Awesome facts about Keanu Reeves that will make you love him even more.
15. It is a Canadian thing
Hockey is just in the Canadian bloodstream, it is as simple as that. As a result, Keanu has it in him too. Growing up, he played quite a lot of Hockey. Reeves was an excellent Goalie. His sharp skills as a goalie even earned him the nickname “The Wall”. The Windsor Spitfires even offered him a tryout. However, he declined the offer to pursue acting .

There are very few action movies that cut to the chase quite as quickly and have the stamina to keep it up for nearly two hours like Speed.
But what’s surprising here is that the main lead role of Speed was offered to Stephen Baldwin, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Wesley Snipes, and Woody Harrelson before casting Keanu Reeves for the role.
But the reason they rejected such a masterpiece still beats me.
13. Ship that was worth sailing
On Dec 21, 2018, Sandra Bullock admitted that she has a huge crush on Keanu Reeves while filming Speed on the Ellen Show.
Unknowing the fact Sandra had a crush on him. Keanu too confessed that he had a crush on Sandra with Ellen during the promotions of John Wick 3.
But unfortunately, both were unable to confess their feelings with each other as they did with Ellen and continued their relationship as best friends.
12. Keanu Reeves vs Smoking
Reeves went full method acting while filming the movie Feeling Minnesota, so he decided to smoke real cigarettes on screen. It was the first time Keanu had ever smoked in his life.
As a result, he ended up addicted to cigarettes at the age of 30.
In a 2008 interview with Daily Mail, he claimed he wanted to quit his smoking habit. It’s 2022 now and he still smokes, so it looks like he’s losing that battle.
11. The Watcher
It may sound a little weird, but Keanu Reeves got tricked into playing a role. What happened here was, a presumably former friend of Keanu forged his signature on the contract.
But Keanu was unable to prove that his signature has forged. This forgery led him to play the a serial killer role in the 2000s “The Watcher”.
Even though he was tricked into playing a role, he never badmouthed the film or anyone. Seriously what a guy he is.
10. Bad luck comes in double
Keanu’s girlfriend Jennifer Syme, was an American actress and personal assistant. In January 2000, the couple gave birth to their stillborn daughter Ava Archer Syme-Reeves after eight months of pregnancy. As a result, the grief caused a strain on their relationship.
On April 2, 2001, after leaving a party at Marilyn Manson’s house, Syme drove her Jeep Grand Cherokee into a row of three parked cars in Cahuenga Boulevard, Los Angeles. This caused her car to roll over several times, partially ejecting her and killing her instantly.
The investigation concluded that she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and was inebriated at that time. Two prescription drugs she was taking as part of her treatment for back pain and depression were found in her car.
In just 15 months, Keanu’s life became upside down.
It took him over 35 years to confirm a relationship with a women publicly. Keanu Reeves’s new girl friend is Alexandra Grant, a Los Angeles-based artist.
9. A Gear Head
Keanu ruptured his spleen, broken his ankle, gotten burns & stitches, had a tooth go through his upper lip, and lost a few teeth as well due to riding motorcycle. But Keanu’s passion and love for motorcycles haven’t changed a bit over the years.
Keanu loves motorcycles so much that he even started his own motorcycle manufacturing company called Arch Motorcycle Company.
8. Well that doesn’t hold in court
While shooting Dracula, Reeves and Winona Ryder appear in a scene in which their characters get married. After reading the above line you might be thinking, Well what’s the big deal it is just a movie scene, not a real marriage right? But you know things got a little interesting.
Winona Ryder later pointed out that director Francis Ford Coppola used a real priest in the scene and that both actors said their vows, meaning they might be married. Even Coppola agreed with this theory.
But unfortunately, that doesn’t hold a candle in court. But, we hope we can see Keanu’s wife soon.
7. He is Breath taking
When Keanu’s flight to Los Angeles, California, made an emergency landing in Bakersfield, California, in March 2019, Reeves boarded a minibus with his fellow passengers. It seems to have taken action to keep them entertained.
Per a variety of social-media videos, Reeves took a road trip to LA with his fellow plane travelers and along the way, he shared fun facts about Bakersfield, played music, and posed for photos.
Damn, Keanu does deserve an Oscar just for being Keanu. Wouldn’t you agree ?
6. Movies over money anytime
Even though Keanu had a great box office milestones, Reeves is definitely not in films for money.
For instance Keanu willingly deferred $2 million so that Al Pacino could be cast in “The Devil’s Advocate.”
He made sacrificing his payout as habit and has done it again. This time, Reeves took a 90% pay cut to bring Gene Hackman on to the sets of “The Replacements”.
5. Dogstar
In addition to his acting career, Reeves also played bass in a grunge band called Dogstar from 1991 to 2002.
But just like the name, the band wasn’t quite good.
Throughout their 11-year run, they managed to produce two albums and one EP, with the career highlight coming when they played at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK in 1999.
4. Keanu being Keanu
The 2016 comedy, Keanu was written and produced by the sketch comedy duo of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key.
The movie is about a kitten named Keanu who winds up in the middle of a gang war. Iis essentially a parody of John Wick. So, Peele and Key wanted the John Wick star to be involved. But without consulting the actor, his management turned down the offer.
But when Reeves saw the first trailer for Keanu, he immediately contacted Key and Peele himself and asked if he could be in it. Finally they were able to get Keanu to voice the cat.
3. Surprise
The director of Speed—Jan de Bont—didn’t want Reeves to have long hair in the movie because he felt like it made Reeves look too young and more like a hippie.
So as a response to this, Reeves ended up shaving his head completely bald. This crazy act terrified everyone at the studio, who were taken aback when they first saw him. It ended up growing in a bit before they started filming.
2. A hero that we need
Reeves has never played a comic book superhero, but not from lack of interest or trying.
If he could have it his way, Reeves would play Batman or Wolverine, and was even in consideration for the latter in X-Men, but lost out to Hugh Jackman.
Reeves was nearly part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year, he was initially cast in Captain Marvel as Yon-Rogg, the mentor to Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. The filming schedule unfortunately conflicted with John Wick 3, and he had to drop out at the last minute.
But don’t worry Marvel soon gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.
1. A Generous guy
Keanu was paid handsomely for his contribution to the Matrix franchise success. But, he acknowledged that it takes an entire team of people in various departments to pull it all off. That is why Keanu generously gave away $75 million of his salary from the two Matrix sequels to the special effects and costume design teams.
To top it all off, he bought the entire stunt team Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Even after that, As of 2020, Keanu Reeve’s net worth is over $360 million.
